Most common grammatical errors in the monologues
1. Capitalization.
- Capitalize I.
- i am a very important person; therefore, I always capitalize I.
- Capitalize the names of proper nouns - people, places, brand names, specific events.
- Constitution High School is a proper noun. However, referring to a general high school is not specific and does not need to be capitalized.
- Jolly Ranchers are a specific brand of candy. If you are just talking about the general candy you got for Halloween, you do not need to capitalize it.
- Capitalize the first letter of each sentence.
2. Homophones
- Their/they're/there
- their = possessive
- they're = they are
- there = location
- Affect/effect
- affect = to influence (verb)
- effect = result or outcome (noun)
3. Run-on sentences
- we will be taking notes to practice identifying and correcting run-on sentences in class.
